12-Inch RIAA Gold Record Award. An original/official RIAA Certified gold record award presented to the WEA (Warner Elektra Atlantic) Atlanta Branch Office in recognition of the sales of more than 500,000 copies of the Depeche Mode 12-inch single (vinyl/CD/cassette) Personal Jesus. This award was hanging in the WEA offices until the branch closed when WEA morphed into the Warner Music Group. The Sire/Reprise paper record label has faded some from being under the office’s fluorescent lights, becoming more pinkish-orange and pale yellow instead of the usual vibrant orange and yellow (please see photos). The award includes a “gold” twelve-inch vinyl records, a compact disc and a cassette, signifying sales in all three formats. It also has the name plaque and the RIAA hologram service mark. The award is in a black laminate wooden frame that measures 23-inches X 17-inches. The laminate is broken at the top. The plexiglass protecting the award has some scratches. On the back of the frame is the Fitzgerald-Hartley Marketing sticker providing information that this item has been manufactured under license of the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), the owners of the RIAA service mark and design.
